The company's guiding principle: "Health, Honesty and Being Active" was the motto of Taisuke Aratani - the former Chairman of Taiyo Pharmaceutical Industry and my father.
My father, Taisuke, was born into a poor Hida family, yet he founded this company and over the course of his lifetime, he built the foundations of Taiyo Group. He was, I believe, the most skilled manager whom I have ever encountered. My father, who had little more to his name than his physical being, believed that his health was his greatest asset, and therefore, he was convinced that the most economical yet correct way of maintaining his health was to be active, before doing other things such as taking medicine or selecting healthy foods. He also believed that honesty was the key to making a business flourish. Therefore, his motto was "Health, Honesty and Being Active".
It wasn't all smooth sailing in the early days after Taiyo Pharmaceutical Industry was established. The irresponsible management practices of its former manager drove the company to the brink of bankruptcy and so I was dispatched to the company to work under my father's instruction. Due largely to the guidance and support that he gave me on both a professional and a personal level, I somehow managed to rebuild the company so that 4 years after my arrival, dividends were resumed and Taiyo Pharmaceutical Industry grew into the company that it is today.
I would like the company to take to heart the principles left with us by my father, so that it might continue to be "healthy," both in terms of its spirit and its vision, to "be active," so that it might respond swiftly in all situations, and to be "honest" at all times and at all costs.
